Ceremonial Uses

The ToadVille Bay flag holds a special place in our nation's most important ceremonies and occasions. The following are traditional and respectful uses of the flag:

  • Funerals and State Ceremonies: The flag is often draped over the casket of deceased citizens, military personnel, and government officials as a sign of honor and respect. The flag is then presented to the family of the deceased.
  • Memorial Services: Flags are displayed at half-mast during national periods of mourning and memorial services to honor those who have passed.
  • State Functions: The flag is prominently displayed at official government ceremonies, inaugurations, and state functions.
  • Athletic and Cultural Events: The flag may be displayed during the opening ceremonies of major sporting events and cultural celebrations.
  • Military and Civic Honors: The flag plays a central role in military ceremonies, parades, and civic processions.
  • Weddings and Anniversaries: Some citizens choose to display the flag during major life celebrations as a symbol of national pride and unity.
  • Half-Mast Protocol: When displaying the flag at half-mast, it should be lowered to the midpoint between the top and bottom of the flagpole. This is done to honor those who have died or during times of national mourning.

Flag Disposal

When a flag becomes worn, damaged, or no longer suitable for display, it should be retired respectfully. The proper way to retire a flag is through a dignified burning ceremony, often conducted during public events or by civic organizations such as veterans' groups or scout organizations. Many communities organize official flag retirement ceremonies.

Patriotic Occasions

Flags are commonly displayed during national holidays, commemorative dates, and patriotic events. Proper display of the flag during these occasions shows respect for our nation and fellow citizens.
